Mike Marcella is the author of "Dirty Thoughts? Let's Talk" and the co-founder of The Clean Thinkers program. Mike helped found The Clean Thinkers on the idea that if we understand the nature of our thinking and improve upon it, we can massively improve our lives, and consequently, the world. As a former director-level professional in the specialty chemical industry, Mike used his science and business background to develop The Clean Thinkers program and content from a practical, effective, and evidence-based approach. 

Although he is a few years older than me, Mike and I went to High School together and share mutual friends in the small town we grew up in. Someone I was always fascinated with how he lived his life, we talked about the journey he took to go from oil field worker to a professional in the performance chemical industry and now into a world where he is his own boss, and personally fulfilled.

Ep. 58: Year 1 In Review

It has been exactly one year since I started this podcast and I thought I would change things up a bit and do this episode solo.

I had a lot of thoughts about all of this.. the amazing people I have spoken with; the stories and journeys they shared with me; the evolution of my own thinking, and the thoughts of where I want to take it next. 

I have a lot of people, especially my family, that deserved a thank you for creating a reality for me that allows me the ability to continue doing this. They make this work.

The past 365 has been pretty eye opening and I am really looking forward to more of it this next year.

Ep. 56: Alan Liu - The Chinese Disappointment

Alan Liu is an amateur mixed martial arts fighter from Pittsburgh, PA who fights out of the Stout Academy. His nickname "The Chinese Disappointment" coming from his journey to the cage which included lying to his conservative and strict parents who forbid him from fighting and ultimately stopped paying for his pre med education as part of an ultimatum. 

We discuss his upcoming fight on May 15, the support his Stout teammates have provided him, and we also got into a crazy story about how his family fell into the belief the world was going to end in 2011 and he lived the majority of his childhood believing he was going to die at the age of 14. Ultimately, an experience which explains a lot of what drives him to this day.

Ep. 53: Sean Swarner - The Cancer Climber

Sean Swarner is considered by many to be one of the top 10 most inspirational people in human history. He is a survivor of not 1 but 2 advanced stage cancer diagnosis, a year long coma and the removal of one of his lungs. 

With only one functioning lung, a prognosis of fourteen days to live, and being in a medically-induced coma for a year, Sean Swarner is the first cancer survivor to stand on top of the world... Mt. Everest. Sean has broken through defined human limitation in order to redefine the way the world views success.

Sean was diagnosed with two deadly, different, and unrelated forms of cancer, once at the age of thirteen and again at the age of sixteen. After an incredibly poor prognosis, and being read his last rites, Sean astounded the medical community when he survived both these brutal diseases. He realized that after defeating cancer twice, no challenge would ever be too great, no peak too high.

Sean proved his theory when he crested the peak of Mt. Everest. As the first cancer survivor to do so, Sean decided to continue climbing and has since topped the highest peaks in Africa, Europe, South America, Australia, Antarctica, and North America, thus completing the “7-Summits”. Upon skiing to both the South and the North Poles, Sean completed the Explorer’s Grand Slam.

With the completion of the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, Sean is the only person in history to accomplish these inhuman feats.

Sean shares his message of healing, hope, and triumph with cancer patients worldwide. He serves as a source of inspiration as the founder of the non-profit organization, The CancerClimber Association, as author of the book “Keep Climbing,” and as a motivational speaker to corporations, universities, and other organizations around the globe.
