Weldon Angelos is a cannabis activist and founder of Mission Green, a nonprofit organization working to provide assistance of all kinds for individuals incarcerated on cannabis crimes, many of whose crimes are not illegal under today’s laws.
In 2002, Weldon was sentenced to a mandatory 55 years in prison for selling a few pounds of marijuana while possessing a firearm – a sentence so extreme that his judge, unable to go below the mandatory minimum, called on the president to commute Weldon’s sentence. After 13 years of fighting, and many disappointments along the way, he was released in March of 2016 after President Obama commuted his sentence.
Today, his mission is clear. Help those still being affected by the unfair laws that obligated his judge to hand out his 55-year sentence, and working with legislature to change these laws moving forward.
We had a great conversation and one you will want to share with anyone you know values the freedoms we should have as citizens of this great country.
